Anime Spotlight: Knight’s and Magic

I stumbled across this anime while scrolling through Crunchyroll’s simulcasts. It interested me because I enjoy mecha anime (Gundam is my favorite series) and it was something new to watch. Here is the synopsis from wiki:

Knight’s & Magic is set in a world where medieval knights use giant robots called Silhouette Knights to fight against demon beasts, magical ravenous animals that devour everything on sight. The protagonist is Tsubasa Kurata, a mecha otaku from Japan who gets killed in a car accident. Tsubasa is reincarnated in this new parallel world as Ernesti “Eru” Echevallia, a boy born into a noble family. Tsubasa’s previous otaku memories inspire Ernesti into creating his own Silhouette Knight in order to defend his kingdom.”

To be honest, this anime moves a little fast. At the beginning of the anime, you don’t get much information on the soon to be main character other than he is an mecha otaku and an extremely talented computer programmer. The next scenes is him being killed and being reborn as a child in a totally different world with rudimentary mechas. The character development is a bit shoddy. Aside from the main character (Ernesti) growing up between being a baby and being in middle school, you don’t really learn about any other characters back story. There are a lot of things that haven’t been addressed or answered. The redeeming factor is the magic and the battles. It’s beautifully drawn and executed but leaves me wanting a bit more. Then again, it is only 5 episodes in so there is so much more for them put into it(and I hope the do). Is it perfect? Nah, not yet but this anime is enjoyable and fun to watch. “Knight’s & Magic” simulcasts on Sundays at 8:00am PST on Crunchyroll. Check it out when you can! I can’t wait to catch this weeks episode. As always, Nerd Out!
