WCW: Villetta Nu

Good afternoon Nerders! It’s another lovely day in the nerd neighborhood. This week’s WCW is a no nonsense, strong military woman. If you have ever seen the anime “Code Geass”, then you know who this woman is. Villetta Nu is an elite Knightmare Frame pilot and subordinate of Jeremiah Gottwald. She becomes a baroness in the second season and she is initially blackmailed into joining the Black Knights. (Source). Ms. Nu didn’t appear until season two of Code Geass but she was a wonderful (and she didn’t die!). She’s a calm and intelligent soldier, moreso than her counterpart Jeremiah. Nu isn’t of noble blood but she supports the Purist Faction. She loses her memory shortly after a confrontation with LeLouch and Shirley.

Villetta is welcomed character in anime. She is strong and complex. She may be over-sexualized a bit (because…anime) but she still commands any scene she’s in. She is actually a trend in recent anime series I’ve seen black characters in. They aren’t stereotyped as the “token” black friend to the protagonist. They are usually strong and resilient characters that have meaningful interactions throughout a show/series.
