Top 10 of the decade: My Top 10 anime
Hello Blerders and Nerders! We are nearing the end of the Decade quickly and I was thinking about the things that happened over the last 10 years. So for the next 10 days, I will be doing my Top 10 lists of various subjects for the last decade, or at least that is the plan. I may miss a few days in between but stuff with get done lol. This means subjects from 2009 to 2019 will be fair game. I also will be discussing these on twitter as well so feel free to join us there as well!
Today’s Top 10 will be…Top 10 anime shows of the decade. I know this will get dicey but remember, this is MY top 10, not yours.
Hunter X Hunter (2011)
A remake of the 1999 version, Hunter X Hunter was an amazing adaptation of the manga. Great story along with supporting arcs and no filler episodes. Great character development, world building and even an interesting power system. It sucks that the manga stopped, which stopped us from getting anything more Hunter X Hunter anime adaptation.
Fate/Zero (2011)
Surprisingly solid anime. Great story-line, interesting characters and a level of realness I hadn’t seen in a while. Also brought about one of my recent favorite movies, “Unlimited Blade Works” (which I highly recommend). Saber is a G and Archer is that dude for real.
Seraph of the End (2015)
Now I stumbled upon this anime on accident. Scrolling through Hulu after watching Yu Yu Hakasho (for the 3rd time that year), I came across this anime. Interesting story with interesting characters (some annoying). Also had one of the most cringey scenes involving little kids. Quite graphic if I must say (until I saw Blood-C, my goodness). I recommend this anime if you need something short with an interesting story, check this out on Hulu!
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (2012)
JoJo has been around (in manga form) since 1987 and finally got an anime in 2012. It took me until last year to watch a full season but I enjoyed it. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is just like it sounds, bizarre but different in a good way. It took me a very long time to take this series seriously but I’m glad I did. Story-line is interesting but what really draws you is the over the top animation and fight scenes.
Akame Ga Kill (2014)
This was a surprisingly short, heartbreaking but well executed anime. Very straight forward story, awesome character development and even better action. Really made you get attached to the characters and made you feel their plight. I believe this is still on Netflix but don’t quote me.
Demon Slayer (2019)
One of the most wonderfully animated anime of the year. First episode kind of catches you by surprise but it’s all uphill from there. I enjoyed the characters (except one) along with the story. The fight scenes were masterful and fun to watch. This something I highly recommend you watch before the next season comes out.
My Hero Academia (2016)
The global phenomenon of the last few years. Think “Sky High” but animated with a much better story. Each season of this show has me wanting more and more while the show gets better. Very little filler along with a wonderful characters. Another high recommendation!
Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World (2016)
This was another anime I randomly found but this time searching through Crunchyroll. I wasn’t expecting to like or continue to watch this until I watched it. It starts out similar to other anime that start with a person in one world and going to another but being overpowered. It’s also low-key harem anime so think Tenchi Muyo plus Sword Art Online. Very interesting story and even cool characters. I believe this is still on Crunchyroll and also Hulu
Steins; Gate (2011)
It took me entirely too long to watch but I finally got around to it the past year. Thanks to our favorite Sineater’s appreciation of this anime, I finally watched the first season. Took me on a time bending adventure and I enjoyed every bit of it. If you have time to have your mind blown, check this anime out.
One Punch Man (2015)
One Punch Man burst on the scene with a resounding punch. Just like the name of the anime suggests, the MC really be beating people down with one punch. One Punch Man is supposed to be a parody of hero and fighter anime characters but also has a decent story (well half way through the first season).
Honorable Mentions: Space Dandy (2014), Kill La Kill (2013), Mob Psycho 100 (2016), Log Horizon (2013)
Well that’s my list for the decade. It was really hard trying to find 10 anime that I could list. There are so many more that I could of put on this list but these in particular were ones that I watched more than once over the years so I had to add them. What about you? Are some of your favorites on this lists? What anime would you have included on your list? Let us know in the comments. Better yet, let us know on our Twitter as well! Be on the lookout for some more Top 10 lists before the end of the decade! Until next time, Nerd out!
