The Mandolorian: Chapter 5 Review

Welcome back Blerders and Nerders! I’m a little late with this review but family is visiting so they definitely get priority. I hope you have been enjoying this series as much as I have been. This week’s episode seems short but is another winner nonetheless. So let’s get into it!

This episode starts off in a fire fight. Still fleeing from the last planet that found Mando and Baby Yoda. It seems that the Guild is sending everyone to collect Baby Yoda and kill Mando. His ship gets damaged and has to set it down to get it repaired.

Mos Eisley has it going on
Mando sets down on Mos Eisley of all places. I feel like it wouldn’t be a Star Wars show if this place wasn’t at least mentioned once. It has such a significance in Star Wars original trilogy lore. Mando lands at a repair shop on Tatooine to get his ship space ready again. The repair woman checks out what needs to be done but doesn’t really give him a price. He hands her a fair amount of credits but she needs more for the work that needs to be done. We find that Mando doesn’t want droids working on his ship. His aversion to droids working on his ship but cool with being in a shootout with a bounty droid (Chapter 1) is interesting to see. I assume it has something to do with his past but I digress. Needing more credits, Mando heads to the cantina to look quick work. This is where he meets Toro, the rookie bounty hunter.

Mando gets a job.
Toro already looked sketchy from the get go but the way he asked Mando for help sealed it for me. He asked Mando to assist him in capturing Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) as a job from the Guild. Mando knew he was a new hunter because of who his bounty was and how nonchalant about he was. Mando almost immediately starts to take charge to go after Fennec Shand. Her locator FOB has her in the Dune Sea so Toro grabs some speeders and they head to get the bounty. Something should be noted here…Toro sees Baby Yoda with Pelli Motto (Amy Sedaris) but thinks nothing of it. This shows that he doesn’t know much about the Guild.

Rookies make rookie mistakes
After a long (not really) drawn out battle, Mando and Toro capture Fennec and have her in cuffs. We don’t really much more about Fennec aside from the fact that she knows more about Mando than Toro does. Mando suggests that Toro goes to get the animal (literally forgot the name of the thing smh) while he waits with Fennic and the speeder. Toro smartly declines and Mando goes instead. While Mando is out, Fennec decides to try to get the rookie on her side and tells him that Mando is worth more than her bounty altogether. That means he can team up and double his prestige (since he doesn’t care about the money) right? Yes and no. He shoots Fennec and heads back to Mando’s ship to capture him and Baby Yoda. Mando gets back and makes short work of Toro and saves both Baby Yoda and Pelli.

Overall Opinion- 7/10
Another good episode but a predictable one. Go to planet to hide, get found out, leave planet, repeat. It’s not a terrible formula but it’s not allowing for much supporting character development but we are seeing growth in Mando which is good. But I want to see the side character introduced to be fleshed out a bit more but like I said after the first episode, it’s the first of it’s kind so I’m expecting these kind of lumps. Still a great episode nonetheless. A little note about the end of the episode…we see the body of Fennec and someone walking over to it. The clinking sounds like Mando (which I’m guessing it is) but it could be the Client seeking help to recover Baby Yoda. What about you? Did you see yesterday’s episode? What did you think? Let us know in the comments! Until next time, Nerd out!
